SRINAGAR: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Kishtwar has taken action against traffic violators, suspending route permits of four vehicles, blacklisting 51 vehicles, suspending nine driving licences, fining 230 vehicles, and seizing 31 vehicles during June and July 2025.
ARTO Kishtwar Tasleem Wani (JKAS), as per news agency JKNS, said the operation was carried out under the overall supervision of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS) and the directions of Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Paul Mahajan (JKAS).
The route permits of four vehicles bearing registration numbers JK17-3055, JK17B-0184, JK17-5315, and JK17-7664 were suspended for a period of three months under Section 86(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Additionally, nine driving licences were suspended under Section 19(1)(d) and (f), 51 vehicles were blacklisted, 230 were e-challaned, and 31 vehicles were seized.
The total fine collected from various violations amounts to ₹9.65 lakh. Violations included dangerous driving, habitual traffic offences, overloading, stunt performances, and plying without speed-limiting devices.
“This is not just enforcement, it’s a message,” said ARTO Tasleem Wani. “These drivers posed a serious threat to passenger safety. Our aim is to protect lives, and this should be a wake-up call for habitual offenders.”
He added that the Motor Vehicles Department Kishtwar, under the supervision of the Transport Commissioner, is committed to enforcing safety norms, ensuring proper transport regulation, and preventing road accidents across the district.
The department has urged all drivers and transport operators to strictly follow the Motor Vehicles Act and prioritise passenger safety. (JKNS)
