
Jammu, Feb 18: Intensified searches by the Jammu and Kashmir Police to trace the third absconding inmate of R S Pura Observation Home entered the third day on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, two Pakistani nationals, who were apprehended from Ambala on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 within hours after their escape from Home, were lodged in R S Pura Police Station after their medical examination was conducted at R S Pura sub district hospital.
Police were conducting raids to apprehend their accomplice, a local gangster, perceived to be the mastermind of the escape story – Karanjeet in different parts of J&K and outside. Police were in touch with their counterparts in the neighbouring states as well.
Though there was no official confirmation yet the reports suggested that five persons were detained for questioning in the incident, which emerged as a big security lapse.
On February 16 evening, three inmates Karanjeet Singh alias Gugga (local gangster), son of Arjun Singh, resident of Dablehar, R S Pura and two Pakistani nationals- Ahsan Anwar, son of Mohd Anwar, resident of Nankana Sahib, Punjab, Pakistan and Mohd Sanaullah, son of Mohd Zaffer, resident of Basti Jawewala, tehsil Dinpur, district Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Pakistan escaped from the Observation Home, R S Pura, after attacking and injuring two on duty police men.
The Police registered a case FIR Number 39/2026 under Sections 109, 132, 262, 307, 111 of the BNS Act and 3/25 Arms Act at R S Pura Police Station.
On February 17, both the Pakistani nationals were apprehended from Ambala railway premises by the STF teams of Haryana Police. Following their arrest, they were handed over to the JKP.
However, the duo’s accomplice Karanjeet was still at large and the manhunt continued to trace him. As per reports, his mother was also missing since their escape from Home.
