SRINAGAR: Renowned Kashmiri poet, storyteller, and critic Yousuf Jahangeer has been selected to represent the Kashmiri language at the National Symposium of Poets 2026, an annual event organised by Prasar Bharati on the eve of Republic Day. Akashvani has chosen one poet from each of the twenty-two scheduled Indian languages for what is being described as the world’s largest poetic symposium. Prasar Bharati released the full list of participating poets and translators earlier today, a PIB handout said.

A Cher Mar (Yaripora) resident, Jahangeer’s acclaimed poem _Rooh Te Raaz_ (The Soul and the Secret) will be featured in the national broadcast. A prominent literary voice with seventeen published books, he is known for writing with equal ease in Kashmiri, Urdu, and English. He will be accompanied at the symposium by noted translator Dr Upendra Raina.

The recording for the event is taking place this month in New Delhi. The symposium will be broadcast at 10 pm on the eve of Republic Day, January 25, 2026, through the National Hook-Up of All India Radio, reaching listeners across the country. Akashvani Srinagar will simultaneously air the complete programme in Kashmiri, allowing audiences across Jammu and Kashmir to hear the performance in their own language.

The National Symposium of Poets 2026 is being projected as a major celebration of India’s linguistic diversity and literary heritage in the year of the seventy-seventh Republic Day.
