Ramban, Jul 3: The work on the 624 MW Kiru Hydroelectric Power Project (KHPP) Kishtwar is nearing completion, an NHPC official said on Thursday.
The project is envisaged as a run of river scheme on river Chenab.
The work of 624 MW, Kiru Hydroelectric Power Project (KHPP) was started in the year 2019 and is scheduled for commercial operation any time by or before the end of this month.
The project is being developed by Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited (CVPPPL), a joint venture between National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) and J&K State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC).
The project aims to significantly boost renewable energy infrastructure and electricity generation in the region.
The project is built near the confluence of the river Chenab with two streams Singad and Bela near Patharnaki and Kiru villages in Kishtwar district.
The project is designed as a run-of-the-river scheme on the Chenab River; it is expected to become operational by the end of July 2025.
Once completed Kiru Power Project will produce 1,975 million units of clean energy annually. Earlier the Project Faced different problems like The (CBI) filed a charge sheet against former J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik and others concerning alleged irregularities in awarding civil works contracts worth over Rs 2,200 crore.
The estimated cost of the project is 4, 287 crores.
Meanwhile NHPC officials in a post on X said that an Power Purchase agreement has been signed for 40 years with MSEDCL Maharashtra, Mumbai on 30 June 2025 by NHPC for Dibang Multipurpose HEP by CVPPL for Kiru, Kawar and Pakaldul HEP in the presence of NHPC, CVPPL, RHPCL and MSEDCL.
