SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department on Tuesday announced winter vacations for all Government Degree Colleges across the Union Territory, with separate schedules notified for winter and summer zones.
According to the government order issued by the Higher Education Department, colleges falling under the winter zone in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions will remain closed from December 24, 2025, to February 14, 2026.
The order further stated that Government Degree Colleges in the Jammu division falling under the summer zone will observe winter vacations from January 1, 2026, to January 10, 2026.
The decision has been taken “in the interest of administration,” the order reads, and applies to all Government Degree Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir.
The vacation schedule comes amid harsh winter conditions in several parts of the Union Territory, particularly in Kashmir and the higher reaches of Jammu, where sub-zero temperatures and snowfall often disrupt academic activities.
Earlier, an order was being circulated which mentioned that winter vacation in Jammu Colleges will be observed up to February 10. However, a new order with January 10 was later released by the department.
