SRINAGAR: Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, Western Army commander, on Tuesday warned that India’s response to cross-border provocations — dubbed Operation Sindoor 2.0 will be “deadlier” than previous actions, while asserting that Pakistan lacks the capacity to fight a full-scale war but may continue to attempt Pahalgam-style attacks.
Speaking to reporters, as per Times of India, Lt Gen Katiyar said Pakistan pursues a policy of “bleed India through a thousand cuts” and that the army is fully prepared to deal with such tactics. He indicated that the forthcoming operation would be more powerful than earlier responses, signalling a tougher posture.
Asked about the prospect of further Pahalgam-type incidents, the Western Army commander said Islamabad would likely persist with such mischief until there is a fundamental change in its strategic thinking. He added that Pakistan does not possess the capacity to engage India in conventional warfare but could resort to limited cross-border strikes and asymmetric attacks.
The remarks underline continuing tensions along the Line of Control and reflect the Indian Army’s intent to deter further incursions by calibrating a stronger retaliatory strategy. Katiyar’s comments follow a period of heightened security concerns after recent cross-border incidents attributed to Pakistani elements.
Military analysts said the language used by the Western Army commander is aimed both at deterrence and at reassuring domestic audiences that the armed forces remain ready to respond decisively to threats. The assertion that Pakistan lacks full-scale war capability, yet may attempt episodic attacks, mirrors long-standing Indian security assessments and informs operational planning along the frontier.
The army did not provide further operational details about Operation Sindoor 2.0, citing security considerations. Officials said any future actions would be governed by situational necessity and in accordance with national policy.
