Srinagar, July 15: A low-pressure zone over Rajasthan is expected to shift further north over the next 24 hours. Simultaneously, a Western Disturbance in the form of a trough at 300 mb is moving eastward towards Kashmir. As a result, the interaction between these two weather systems is set to intensify within the next 24 hours. Although not indicated by weather models, there is a possibility that the jet stream could draw the low-pressure zone — or vortex — closer towards it, due to powerful nature of the WD. In my experience, I have seen this happening, so the possibility can’t be ruled out. Under such scenario, rainfall amounts could end up exceeding current predictions. The low-pressure zone may persist until 17 July, although at upper levels, the system would begin to weaken, with the Western Disturbance shifting further northward (away from Kashmir).
