Handwara: Several major water supply improvement works in Guloora and Kohru have been cleared for execution under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) of MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed, with the PHE Division Handwara asked to immediately initiate the technical process.

According to an official communication issued by the District Development Commissioner, Kupwara, the MLA had earlier conveyed approval for the works through his D.O. letter dated 05 December 2025. The projects are aimed at addressing long-standing drinking water issues in the area, particularly during peak demand seasons.

The sanctioned works include procurement of a motor and laying of 0.6-inch pipes at Kohru and Guloora, for which ₹4 lakh has been earmarked, while another ₹2 lakh has been allocated for laying and fitting of 0.75-inch pipes for the Water Supply Scheme at Guloora.

The Executive Engineer, PHE Handwara, has now been directed to submit a technically vetted Detailed Project Report (DPR) along with pre-execution photographs within seven days, strictly in line with CDF guidelines. Officials have also stressed that the works must not fall under individual benefit, religious nature or duplication of any previously executed scheme.

The development has been welcomed by residents of Guloora and Kohru, who expressed gratitude to the MLA for taking up the matter and facilitating approval. Locals said the move reflects responsiveness towards public concerns and is expected to ease drinking water shortages that have persisted for years.
