Visitors seek upgradation, maintenance of public parks in Kangan

Kangan, Aug 10: Notwithstanding the claims of the authorities for beautification and upgradation of the public parks in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District is turning out to be an eyesore for the visitors.

People visiting several parks in Kangan sub division of Ganderbal district have shown concern about the deteriorating condition of public parks and are calling for better maintenance. They express concerns about the lack of proper upkeep, staffing shortages, and inadequate infrastructure.

The visitors rue lack of basic facilities including lavatory points and non-availability of water supply in most of these parks here.

Kangan sub division has several parks including Dr Farooq Abdullah environment park at Manigam, Baba Nizam Din environment park also known as Dumping park near Kichpara, Preng park, Kangan park, children park Gund, Fish pond park Sonamarg and several others , however most of these parks lack development, maintenance and upgradation besides cleanliness. These parks are the major places for recreational spaces, however the lacksadical approach from the concerned departments are a source of disappointment for the visitors.

Locals said that these parks require significant maintenance and development to improve their condition and enhance recreational spaces. Residents acknowledge the need for better upkeep and expansion of green spaces. This includes addressing issues like, overgrown weeds, crumbling pathways, and inadequate play equipment. The people have urged the concerned departments to take necessary steps for the maintenance and beautification of these public parks. The locals also urged the authorities to install some street lights near the park.
