Srinagar, Feb 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team for their emphatic victory in the Ranji Trophy, saying the achievement has made the entire Union Territory proud.

Officials said the victory reflects the dedication, discipline and perseverance of the players, coaching staff and support teams who worked tirelessly throughout the season.

Highlighting its own initiatives to promote sports at the grassroots level, the police officials said it has been actively organising tournaments and sporting events across districts to provide a platform for young talent.

“We are committed to giving a flip to talent by organising tournaments and encouraging youth participation in constructive activities,” a senior police official said.

He said that sports serve as a powerful tool for channelising energy in a positive direction.

Over the past few years, J&K Police have conducted multiple cricket, football and volleyball tournaments in rural and urban areas alike, aiming to identify emerging talent and steer young people away from negative influences.

Officers said such initiatives are part of a broader community outreach effort focused on youth engagement, confidence-building and fostering unity.

Cricket enthusiasts and former players also hailed the Ranji victory as a turning point for the region’s sporting landscape. Many said the win would boost morale and strengthen the cricketing ecosystem, encouraging better infrastructure, coaching facilities and competitive exposure for budding cricketers.
