Valuables stolen from JJM water supply transformer in Rajouri’s Malhut village

Rajouri, Jul 30: In a bizarre incident, unidentified thieves decamped with valuable equipment from a recently installed 250 KVA power transformer at Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) water supply station in Malhut village of Darhal tehsil, Rajouri district.

The theft came to light on Wednesday morning when locals noticed the transformer lying dismantled on the ground near the water supply station.

Alarmed by the sight, the villagers immediately alerted the concerned department.

Officials from the department along with Police team rushed to the spot. Local Police have started investigations into the incidents.

Sources said the accused had removed the transformer from its poles before carrying out the theft.

Items stolen include copper wire, a motor, and several other internal components worth lacs.

The locals said the besides resulting financial loss, the theft incident is also expected to delay the commissioning of the water supply scheme.
