Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said that the active power load in the Kashmir Valley has dropped to less than 100 megawatts (MW), a sharp decline from the usual demand of around 1,700 MW, due to widespread power disruptions.

In a post on microblogging platform X, the Chief Minister, citing the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), said that the outage of nearly all 33 KV feeders, including those supplying emergency services, has severely impacted electricity supply across the Valley.

“Teams are on the job for rectification, but extensive tree fall on the power lines and windy conditions are major hurdles to be overcome,” Omar Abdullah said.

He further informed that a detailed assessment of the damage is currently underway, but noted that the process would take time due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
