Srinagar: To strengthen the fight against human trafficking in the digital era, the Crime Branch Headquarters J&K, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, organized a one-day Union Territory-level conference on Anti-Human Trafficking at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, on Thursday.
The conference, held under the overall supervision of IGP Crime J&K, Sujit Kumar (IPS), aimed at spreading awareness among students and the public regarding the menace of human trafficking and its social impact.
S.J.M. Gillani (IPS), Special DG Coordination PHQ J&K, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his address, he, as per Alfaaz – The Words, stressed the need for collective efforts from society to curb human trafficking and appealed to people to remain vigilant and support the police in tackling this grave issue.
The event witnessed the participation of senior police officers, including Alok Kumar (IPS), ADGP Director Fire & Emergency Services J&K, and Uttam Chand (IPS), IGP Headquarters PHQ, as well as judicial officers, senior officers from various government departments such as Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Labour, and others.
Students from Kashmir University’s law faculty, various colleges and schools, representatives from NGOs, Border Security Force (BSF), and Nodal Police Officers of AHTU J&K also took part in the programme.
Expert trainers and activists, including Rajesh Mani, Human Trafficking Consultant, and Advocate Ravi Kant, Founder of Shakti Vahini and National Convener of Just Rights for Children, delivered lectures and presentations highlighting strategies to break the chains of trafficking. They shared insights on combating trafficking, supporting victims, and identifying effective preventive measures.
The conference served as a valuable platform for stakeholders to exchange experiences and expertise. Mementoes were presented to the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Mohammad Fiesel Qureshi, SSP SO to IGP Crime.
