Srinagar: The Motor Vehicles Department has issued a final warning to unauthorised vehicle dealers operating in Kupwara district, directing them to complete registration formalities within 10 days.
A notice issued by the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Kupwara, states that several dealers engaged in the resale and purchase of registered vehicles are functioning without the mandatory authorisation, in violation of provisions laid down under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) 55AA to 55H.
The department said that despite earlier directions, a significant number of dealers have not submitted applications for registration so far. To ensure compliance, a final opportunity has been granted with effect from today (February 3, 2026).
The notice maintains that establishments continuing operations beyond the stipulated deadline without valid registration will face seizure and legal proceedings under applicable laws, without any further notice.
Dealers concerned have been urged to adhere to the directive to avoid punitive action.
The District Information Officer Kupwara has been in the meantime asked to ensure wide publicity through leading newspapers.
