
SRINAGAR: Union Power Minister Manohar Lal concluded a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, during which he carried out an extensive review of major hydropower projects in the Union Territory.
On the first day of his visit, January 4, the Minister reviewed the progress of the Salal, Sawalkot and Ratle hydropower projects.
Later in the evening, he reached NHPC’s Dulhasti Power Station in Kishtwar, where he was received by Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), and Ramesh Mukhiya, Managing Director, Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited (CVPP), along with senior officials of NHPC and CVPP.
On the second day, Manohar Lal inspected all three CVPP projects—Pakal Dul (1,000 MW), Kiru (624 MW) and Kwar (540 MW)—and held detailed review meetings with project heads and contractors. The Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC briefed the Minister on various technical and operational aspects of the under-construction projects.
Following the review, the Power Minister directed that the Pakal Dul and Kiru projects be commissioned by December 2026, while setting March 2028 as the target for completion of the Kwar project.
During the visit, Manohar Lal also interacted with local residents and workers at different project sites, listening to their concerns and feedback.
He lauded the engineers, staff and workers for their dedication and perseverance in executing the projects under difficult terrain and climatic conditions, and extended his best wishes for the timely and successful completion of the works.(KINS)
