SRINAGAR: Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, on Saturday visited several flood-affected areas of Jammu district to assess the damages caused by recent floods.

Accompanied by legislators Sham Lal Sharma, Vikram Randhawa and Mohan Lal Bhagat, along with Vice Chairman of the District Development Council Jammu, Suraj Singh, the Minister visited Nai Basti in Jammu North constituency and Garkhal and Pargwal areas of Akhnoor constituency. She interacted with residents, enquired about their losses, and assured them of all possible assistance from the Government of India.

Bambhaniya said her visit was in line with the Prime Minister’s directions to personally assess ground realities in affected states, including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. She added that the Prime Minister has been monitoring the flood situation closely and has expressed concern for those hit by the calamity.

Highlighting the plight of border residents in Garkhal and Pargwal, the MoS observed that these communities face not only flood-related destruction but also challenges stemming from their proximity to the international border.

The Minister said she has toured different parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the past two days to prepare a comprehensive ground report, which will be submitted to the Government of India. She reiterated that relief and rehabilitation of flood-affected families remain a top priority.

Additional District Development Commissioner Jammu, Sher Singh, along with senior district officers, briefed the Minister about the extent of damages and local-level relief measures during the visit.
