SRINAGAR: The Centre told Parliament that Jammu and Kashmir is supplied with nearly 4.5 lakh metric tonnes of food grains each year under the National Food Security Act, while Ladakh receives about 0.32 to 0.35 lakh metric tonnes annually through the Targeted Public Distribution System.

In a written response in the Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said that Jammu and Kashmir was allotted about 4.50 lakh metric tonnes in 2020–21, 4.49 lakh metric tonnes in 2021–22, 4.51 lakh metric tonnes in 2022–23 and roughly 4.50 lakh metric tonnes in 2023–24, with comparable allocations maintained in 2024–25. For 2025–26, up to December 2025, the Union Territory has received nearly 3.75 lakh metric tonnes under the NFSA.

For Ladakh, the ministry said around 0.32 LMT was allocated in 2020–21, which increased marginally to about 0.33–0.35 LMT between 2021–22 and 2024–25, while around 0.28 LMT has been allocated in 2025–26 (up to December).

Earlier, the government informed Parliament that more than 9.10 lakh metric tonnes of food grains were provided to Jammu and Kashmir and about 59,000 metric tonnes to Ladakh under the PMGKAY during the COVID-19 period, over and above the allocations under the NFSA.

The Ministry said that advance stocking and special transportation arrangements are made for snow-bound areas of Kashmir and high-altitude regions of Ladakh to ensure uninterrupted supply during winter months.
