SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday attended the 125th Birth Anniversary event of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee at Tagore Hall, Srinagar.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor said that Dr Mookerjee played a key role in the integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India and was a proponent of “One Nation, One Constitution.” He said Dr Mookerjee opposed Article 370 and passed away in Srinagar while seeking complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India.
He said the Prime Minister fulfilled Dr Mookerjee’s objective 66 years after his death. The Lieutenant Governor added that Jammu and Kashmir’s progress post-August 2019 is based on Dr Mookerjee’s vision and the Prime Minister’s leadership.
He said Dr Mookerjee aimed to build a region free from discrimination and sought the active involvement of people in development and public affairs. He said Jammu and Kashmir is making progress in various sectors in line with that aim.
The Lieutenant Governor said Dr Mookerjee contributed to India’s industrial development and introduced measures that laid the foundation for a self-reliant economy.
He announced that a two-year campaign has been launched in Jammu and Kashmir to mark Dr Mookerjee’s contributions. Exhibitions and lectures will be organised across schools, colleges, and universities from July 2025 to July 2027. He said week-long exhibitions and theatre performances should be held to highlight Dr. Mookerjee’s work.
The Lieutenant Governor also released the translation of new criminal laws in the Kashmiri language during the event. An exhibition on Dr. Mookerjee’s life and work was also organised by IGNCA Regional Office and the Department of Culture.
