SRINAGAR: Two Special Police Officers (SPOs) in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir have been dismissed from service for alleged links with militant groups, officials confirmed on Sunday. The SPOs, Abdul Latief and Mohammad Abbas, had been previously arrested for reportedly aiding and providing support to terrorist elements in the region, according to News18.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Kathua, Mohita Sharma, ordered the immediate dismissal following internal investigations and the registration of multiple FIRs against both personnel. Abdul Latief was found to be in direct contact with militants and is currently lodged in Doda Jail, while Mohammad Abbas faces four separate FIRs for his alleged involvement in terror-related activities.
Authorities said the decision comes amid intensified police operations targeting terror networks, with raids conducted across multiple districts to dismantle sleeper cells and prevent infiltration.
Police officials said that both men were accused of assisting with logistics and providing safe passage to suspected militants.
