Two Held for Aiding Militants; Arms, Ammunition Seized: Police

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested two militant associates in the Tral area of Police District Awantipora and recovered explosive substances and ammunition from their possession.

“During a checkpoint established at Wagad Crossing, a joint team of Police, Army (42 RR), and CRPF (180 Bn) apprehended two individuals identified as Umer Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din, resident of Nader Tral, and Shakeel Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, resident of Kuchmulla Tral. During the search, the forces recovered explosive substances and ammunition including 02 hand grenades, 59 live rounds of AK-47, one AK-47 magazine, and other incriminating material from their possession,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

Police said both arrested persons were involved in providing logistical support and transporting arms and ammunition to the proscribed outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad in Tral and Awantipora areas.

A case under FIR No. 86/2025 has been registered at Police Station Tral under relevant sections of law, and further investigation has been initiated, police said. (GNS)
