The US President Donald Trump called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday evening to discuss the ways to end the West-Asian conflict that is in its fourth week now . This is the most significant development in the global affairs ever since the war broke out on February 28 with American-Israeli strikes on Iran, and the war has now extended to entire Middle-East with Iran launching attacks on the critical infrastructure and the US bases in the Gulf States in the past 24 days.

Trump’s call at this point in time ,came within a day after he had announced pause in American attacks on power plants of Iran on Monday . He had spoken of “ good and productive conversation regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East . Based on the tenor and tone of these in depth , detailed , and constructive conversations, which will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five-day period.”

This was after he had threatened to “ obliterate “ Iran’s various Power Plants , Starting with the Biggest One First .”

The US President has made a dramatic and dynamic shit in his stand from extraordinary threats to diplomatic outreach . This was in line with the stand that Modi had been urging the warring countries to adopt; repose trust in dialogue and diplomacy . his message was uniform and universal to all the heads of the states and governments that he had spoken during the times of conflict .

On Tuesday , Modi posted on X: “Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest. Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world. We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability.”

The two leaders addressed critical issues which have ricocheted across the region and also affected several countries all at once because of threat to energy security , and that how the peace should be restored . Keeping Strait of Hormuz open is critical to keep the supply chains going .

Trump chose to speak with PM Modi shows that how much importance the US accords to India and its leader who has been guiding its affairs for the past over 11 years . During this period , India has emerged on the global stage as the fastest growing economy in the world , and has two fundamental doctrines – resolve issue through dialogue and diplomacy , and that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is unacceptable .

Trump’s call came after he realized that Modi is the only leader who can speak to all leaders and his tone and tenor in condemning the attacks on critical infrastructure is unequivocal . During his conversation with the Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday –March 21, 2026- in which he had condemned attacks on the critical infrastructure . That condemnation applied to all sides, including Iranian attacks on the Gulf States . At the same time , PM was very categorical in demanding from Iran that Strait of Hormuz be kept open for safe and secure shipping in the region .

The US and other nations have realized that a leader who can speak frankly the truth on this conflict is Modi, the most trusted voice in the world leadership. Trump knew all this and that made him to call PM Modi . this may become a turning point in defusing the crisis, as when Modi speaks world listens to the leader of the largest democracy in the world.
