
Jammu, Feb 24: Rich tributes were paid to Aman Kumar Thakur, a Deputy Superintendent of Police on his seventh martyrdom anniversary Tuesday, with family members and well-wishers remembering his courage and sacrifice.
In a statement issued which read, “Today, on the solemn occasion of the 7th anniversary of martyrdom, we pay our deepest re-spects to Shaheed Deputy Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar Thakur (12 February 1980 – 24 February 2019), who laid down his life in the line of duty while combating terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir.”
The statement added that his supreme sacrifice remains a shining example of courage, patriotism, and selfless service to the Nation.
Born in Village Gagla (Sar), Tehsil Kastigarh, District Doda, Aman Kumar Thakur was the beloved son of Swami Raj Gouria & Pooja Devi. A brilliant student throughout his academic career, he completed his M.Sc. in Zoology from the University of Jammu and quali-fied NET. His journey in public service began in 2008 with roles in the Social Welfare and Edu-cation Departments. Yet, driven by an unyielding passion to serve the Nation, he joined the Jammu & Kashmir Police (JKPS) in 2011 as a Dy.SP after clearing the J&K Public Service Commission examination.
In his short but impactful tenure, Thakur demonstrated extraordinary dedication and valor. His deep understanding of the region’s terrain and his commitment to safeguarding lives earned him numerous honors, including, DGP Medal (2018), Sher-Kashmir Medal for Gallantry (Jan 2019), President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (2020 & 2021), Shaurya Chakra (Posthumously, 2020) awarded by the President of India.
During his final posting as Dy.SP Police Component Hatipora, District Kulgam, he led from the front in counter-terrorism operations. On 24 February 2019, he made the ultimate sacrifice, exemplifying extraordinary courage and devotion to duty. His martyrdom remains etched in the collective memory of the Nation as a testament to his heroism and unwavering commitment to national security.
On his martyrdom anniversary he was deeply remembered by his family, and close relatives which included parents Swami Raj Gouria & Pooja Devi, Wife & Son, Serla Devi & Master Aarya Vishlakshh Singh.
