SRINAGAR: A possible railway accident was averted on Friday after the prompt action of Station Master Vijay Kumar at Bhangala station in Jammu division of Northern Railway prevented an NMG freight train from meeting with an accident.

“According to the incident report, Station Master Vijay Kumar was on night duty on October 10, 2025. While on duty, at around 3:25 am, as an empty NMG freight train was passing through Bhangala station, the Station Master noticed smoke and sparks coming from the wheel of the 15th coach of the engine,” a statement said.

Acting promptly, the Station Master signaled the train manager of the freight train with a red signal.
