Rajouri, Aug 20: The Mughal Road remained closed for several hours on Wednesday after a massive landslide struck near Pir Ki Gali, disrupting the movement of vehicles and cutting off a vital link between the Pir Panjal region and the Kashmir Valley.

The landslide, triggered in the morning hours, brought down heavy boulders on the road stretch near Pir Ki Gali.

Slide clearance work was immediately launched, and after several hours of strenuous efforts by the concerned authorities, traffic was finally restored, Sub Divisional Magistrate Surankote Farooq Khan said.

During the closure, hundreds of vehicles were left stranded on both sides of the road, causing severe inconvenience to commuters and transporters.

Many passengers, including women and children, were reported to be stuck for hours in the chilly upper reaches.

Mughal Road holds immense historic and strategic importance as it connects Rajouri and Poonch districts with Kashmir Valley, serving as an alternative route to the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
