Traffic Diversion Plan Issued for Muharram Processions in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Srinagar Traffic Police on Friday issued a detailed traffic advisory for the smooth movement of vehicles during Muharram processions scheduled from June 30 to July 21, 2025, in various parts of the city.

The advisory, aimed at facilitating both commuters and mourners, comes in view of religious processions held during the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram, which began on June 27.

According to officials, several key routes will witness traffic diversions on specific dates and times, particularly in areas such as Rainawari-Hazratbal road, Zadibal, Hawal, and Lalbazar.

The diversion schedule is as follows:

  • June 30 (4th Muharram): Rainawari-Hazratbal road and Zadibal area, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • July 1 (5th Muharram): Rainawari-Hazratbal and Zadibal, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • July 2 (6th Muharram): Zadibal area, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • July 3 (7th Muharram): Rainawari-Hazratbal road, from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM
  • July 4 (8th Muharram): Zadibal area, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM
  • July 5 (9th Muharram): Rainawari-Hazratbal and Zadibal, from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM
  • July 6 (10th Muharram – Ashura): Zadibal area, from 4:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • July 7 (11th Muharram): Rainawari-Hazratbal and Zadibal, from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM
  • July 8 (12th Muharram): Bagwanpora Lalbazar, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM
  • July 21 (25th Muharram): Zadibal area, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM

As per the advisory, traffic from Lal Chowk towards Hazratbal will be diverted via Khanyar–Dastgeer Sahib–Nowhatta–Hawal–Lalbazar, while vehicles from Hazratbal towards the city centre will be rerouted through Saderbal–Lalbazar.

Traffic from Gojwara will be redirected via Hawal–Ali Masjid (Dr Ali Jan Road). The department has requested motorists to cooperate and plan their travel accordingly. Additional diversions, if needed, will be communicated separately.
