SRINAGAR: A fire incident broke out in a three-storeyed residential house at SD Colony, Batamaloo, on Thursday evening, causing damage to the second floor and attic portion of the building, officials said.

According to Fire and Emergency Services, the fire was reported at around 9:41 pm, following which the State Fire Control Room, Srinagar, immediately dispatched fire tenders from the Fire and Emergency Services Headquarters. Firefighters reached the spot within a minute and launched firefighting operations without delay.

Officials said the affected house belongs to Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of late Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, and Mehraj-ud-Din Sheikh, son of late Mohammad Abdullah Sheikh. Due to the congested nature of the locality, additional fire boozers were pressed into service to ensure adequate water supply and to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining structures.

After a brief but intense operation, fire personnel succeeded in bringing the blaze under control. No loss of life was reported in the incident.

The operation was carried out by the Divisional Fire Officer Headquarters Muzaffar Ali under the supervision of the Deputy Director, Fire and Emergency Services, and Mobilising Officer Aijaz Ahmad Shah.

At the preliminary stage, officials said the fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. However, a detailed investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause.

Fire and Emergency Services have advised residents to exercise caution while using electrical appliances, particularly in densely populated areas.
