
SRINAGAR: At least three residential houses were damaged after a fire broke out in the Nowhatta area of Srinagar on Thursday, officials said, adding that firefighting operations were underway to control the blaze.
According to officials, the fire erupted in one house and quickly spread to adjoining structures, causing damage to multiple residential units. Locals attempted to douse the flames before fire tenders reached the spot.
The Fire and Emergency Services said a fire call was received by the State Fire Control Room at around 4:38 pm. On initial assessment, three residential houses were found to be involved in the incident at Pandan Nowhatta.
Firefighting teams were immediately rushed to the area, and operations are currently in progress to prevent the fire from spreading further. Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services Dr Mir Aqib Hussain, along with Mobilising Officer Aijaz Ahmad Shah and officers from the Divisional Fire Office headquarters, is supervising and coordinating the operation on the ground.
Officials said no casualties have been reported so far. The cause of the fire is being ascertained. Further details are awaited as firefighting operations continue.
