SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police in South Kashmir’s Kulgam arrested three drug peddlers, including a woman, and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband from their possession.
“A police party led by In-charge Police Post Nehama, under the supervision of SDPO DH Pora, intercepted a load carrier (JK18D-9075) near Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pombay Kulgam. Three persons, including a woman, were on board. During the search, 8.15 kg of poppy straw-like substance was recovered from their possession,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
“The accused have been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani Bhat, resident of Watigam Kulgam (driver); Raju Singh, son of Gurbaksh Singh, resident of Ludhiana, Punjab; and a woman resident of Moga, Punjab. All three have been arrested and shifted to the police station, where they remain in custody,” it reads.
A case under FIR No. 49/2025 has been registered at Police Station DH Pora under relevant sections of law, and investigation is underway.
Police have urged the public to report instances of drug peddling or any other suspicious activity by contacting the nearest police establishment or dialling 112. Authorities have requested public cooperation in curbing drug abuse and reiterated that action will be taken against offenders as per law.
