SRINAGAR: To combat the growing menace of drug trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir, Baramulla Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers on Saturday and recovered a significant quantity of contraband substances.
According to a police spokesperson, a team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Tangmarg intercepted a Maruti van during a routine checkpoint in the Tangmarg area. Upon searching the vehicle and its occupants, the police recovered approximately 84 grams of a charas-like substance.
The two individuals travelling in the van were identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Parray, son of Mohammad Sultan Parray, a resident of Druroo, and Mohammad Shafi Lone, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Lone, a resident of Gund Maqsood. In a separate operation, another individual, Riyaz Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir from Ratnipora, was also apprehended with 86 grams of charas-like substance in his possession.
All three accused have been arrested, and the vehicle allegedly used in the commission of the crime has been seized. Police have registered cases under relevant sections of the law and launched an investigation to uncover possible links and networks associated with the arrested suspects.
A senior police officer stated that further investigation is underway to trace additional individuals who may be involved in the region’s drug supply chain.
