SRINAGAR: Police in kupwara district have successfully solved a burglary case reported from Hajaj Market area, leading to the arrest of three accused and recovery of stolen property, officials said.

Police said the burglary took place during the intervening night of January 9 and 10 within the jurisdiction of Police Post Bazaar, Kupwara. On January 10, information regarding the theft was received, following which FIR No. 09 of 2026 under Sections 305 and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Police Station Kupwara.

Multiple police teams were constituted under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Mubashir Niaz to investigate the case. During the course of investigation, CCTV footage from various locations was collected and thoroughly analysed, which provided crucial leads.

Based on the technical evidence, one suspect identified as Akhter Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, an inhabitant of Drugmulla, was apprehended. On his disclosure, police arrested two more associates, including Showket Ahmad Mir, son of Ali Mohammad Mir, also an inhabitant of Drugmulla. The name of the third accused has been withheld at this stage for investigative reasons.

Police said stolen property involved in the burglary was subsequently recovered from the residences of the accused. The recovered items include cash, cash garlands, empty garlands, dry fruits, and readymade clothes including jeans and jackets. The motorcycle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.

Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused are involved in other similar burglary cases in the district. [KNT]
