Kupwara, Jul 30: A government school teacher died and at least 20 persons were injured after a passenger bus turned turtle in the Behnipora area of Rajwar in north Kashmir’s Handwara on Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses told Greater Kashmir that the bus skidded off the road and overturned, following which locals, Police, and Army rushed to the spot and began a rescue operation.
The injured were immediately shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara for treatment.
Superintendent Associated District Hospital GMC Handwara, Dr Ajaz Bhat confirmed receiving at least 20 injured persons. “The injured are being closely monitored and treated and anything about their condition would be said after proper assessment,” he added.
A Police officer said that the cause of the accident is being investigated. He said the driver might have lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve.
