Tata Sumo plunges into gorge in Mendhar, 8 injured

Mendhar, Dec 23: Eight people were injured after a Tata Sumo vehicle plunged off the road at Tain area of Mendhar in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday evening.

The accident involved a Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK12-3861, which reportedly skidded off the road and fell into a gorge.

The injured have been identified by police as Mohd Parvaiz, son of Mohd Yaqoob (40); Noor Jan, wife of Wazir Hussain (60); Wazir Hussain, son of Farooq (65); Tasweer Bi, wife of Ibrahim (55); Khatija Bi, wife of Mohd Pattu (55); Shabia Kousar, wife of Mohd Kushal (45); Sahila Kousar, daughter of Mohd Kushal (7); and Zeenat Bi, wife of Umar Azad (30).

All the injured are residents of Tain Mankote and soon after the accident, locals and rescue teams rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby health facility for treatment.

Two of the injured have been reported to be in critical condition. Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
