T20 trial matches underway in Srinagar for final JKCA senior team selection

Srinagar, Jul 5: The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) T20 trial matches are in full swing at Sheri Kashmir International Cricket Stadium in Srinagar as selectors look to finalise the senior men’s T20 squad.

The ongoing matches, as per the JKCA officials, are offering a crucial platform for top performers to stake their claim for a spot in the team.

In one of the key matches played on Saturday, Team D, led by Shubham Pundeer, posted 194 runs after winning the toss and batting first. Kamalpreet led the charge with a brilliant 73-run knock, supported by Dikshant Kundal, who added 40. However, Team A, led by Shubham Khajuria, chased down the target successfully, with a sensational unbeaten century by Musaif Ajaz, who scored 108 not out, emerging as the star of the match.

On the bowling side, Mujtaba Yusuf claimed 2 wickets for Team D.

In the second match, Team C, led by Abdul Samad, set a target of 174 runs, with the skipper scoring 39 and Arya Thakur contributing 32. Sajdev Singh impressed with the ball, claiming 2 wickets for Team C.

Team B, led by Aquib Nabi, came close during the chase but fell short by just 4 runs, finishing on 170. Kamran Iqbal top-scored with a fluent 74, while Yawar Hassan added 61. Despite their efforts, Team B couldn’t cross the finish line as Irfan ul Haq bowled a tight spell, returning 3 wickets for Team C.

The JKCA officials said that the trial matches were expected to continue after the Sunday break, with selectors monitoring performances closely as they prepare to announce the final squad for the upcoming domestic T20 season.
