Srinagar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday announced a major breakthrough in the Red Fort area car bomb blast case with the arrest of a Kashmiri resident accused of conspiring with the suicide bomber behind the attack that killed 10 people and left around 25 injured.

As per an official handout, according to news agency GNS, the NIA arrested Amir Rashid Ali, in whose name the vehicle used in the blast was registered, during a search operation in Delhi. The agency took over the investigation from Delhi Police earlier this month.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Amir, a resident of Samboora, Pampore, had conspired with the alleged suicide bomber, Umar Un Nabi, to execute the attack. Amir had reportedly travelled to Delhi to facilitate the purchase of the car later used as a vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Forensic analysis conducted by the NIA has confirmed the identity of the deceased driver of the explosive-laden vehicle as Umar Un Nabi, a resident of Pulwama district and an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al Falah University, Faridabad.

The NIA has also seized another vehicle belonging to Umar, which is currently being examined for potential evidence. So far, the agency has recorded statements of 73 witnesses, including several of the injured survivors of the November 10 blast.

The investigation, registered under case number RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI, is being carried out in coordination with Delhi Police, Jammu & Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police, and other intelligence and security agencies. The NIA said it is pursuing multiple leads to uncover the broader conspiracy and identify additional suspects involved in the attack.
