Srinagar, July 27: In a significant leadership development, Jammu & Kashmir Bank on Saturday elevated two of its senior executives—Sunit Kumar, Divisional Head (Jammu), and Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, Head of Strategy & IT Vertical—to the position of Chief General Managers (CGMs). The elevation marks the revival of the CGM rank in the Bank’s hierarchy after more than two decades.

Both officers joined the Bank as probationary officers in 1989 and bring with them over three decades of operational and strategic expertise. Their elevation forms part of the Bank’s wider institutional strategy to build a resilient and future-ready leadership cadre.

Alongside, the Bank promoted nine Deputy General Managers to the position of General Manager. The newly promoted GMs include Tariq Ali, Khursheed Muzaffar, Arshad Qadri, Rakesh Magotra, Ajay Kohli, Ashok Gupta, Nishikant Sharma, Mohammad Muzaffar Wani, and Altaf Hussain Kira.

Congratulating the promoted officers, J&K Bank MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee said, “It is a proud moment for us to see our officers grow into leadership roles. I warmly congratulate Sunit Kumar, Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, and all other colleagues who have risen through dedication and commitment.”

Chatterjee noted that reinstating the CGM level is part of a broader leadership succession strategy. “As we expand our business and footprint, we need a strong leadership base. Strengthening the top leadership is crucial to meet both our growth ambitions and regulatory responsibilities,” he said.

He added that developing internal talent and aligning promotions with performance reinforces the Bank’s core values and long-term vision. “Grooming our own talent builds institutional depth and ensures continuity,” he emphasised.

The latest promotions are part of a wider career progression initiative launched by the Bank in recent months. Over 1,400 officers across levels have benefitted from this institutional drive. These include 14 Assistant General Managers promoted to Deputy General Manager, 41 Chief Managers promoted to AGM, 36 Senior Managers to Chief Manager, 392 Managers to Senior Manager, and 752 Assistant Managers promoted to Manager rank.

The Bank has also conducted an online exam under its Fast Track promotion route to fill vacancies in Manager and Chief Manager cadres. Promotions in the workmen cadre are also in progress, as part of a sustained effort to strengthen internal capabilities and reward merit across all levels.
