Jammu, 07, April 2026: A strong Western Disturbance is set to impact Jammu & Kashmir over the next 36 hours, with its primary influence over the Jammu region. The system is expected to bring intense weather activity, including heavy rainfall, snowfall at higher elevations, and a noticeable drop in temperatures.
𝙅𝙖𝙢𝙢𝙪 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣:
A significant spell of moderate to heavy rainfall is expected across the Jammu region, with the peak intensity likely from late afternoon today through tomorrow afternoon.
Most affected districts:
Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Ramban, Samba, Jammu, Udhampur, and Kathua
Moderate impact expected in:
Doda and Kishtwar
● Heavy rain spells may trigger flash floods in vulnerable areas
● Sharp rise in water levels of rivers and streams is likely
● Temperatures will drop sharply during this period
● Snowfall is highly likely in higher elevations above 2500–2700 meters
𝙆𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙢𝙞𝙧 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣:
Weather activity will be moderate compared to Jammu region, but still significant for areas close to Pir Panjal range.
Moderate to heavy rain/snowfall expected in areas close to Pir Panjal range, including Mughal Road, Sinthan Pass, and Margan Top.
Most other parts of Kashmir will receive a moderate spell of rainfall or showers.
A sharp drop in daytime temperatures is expected across the region on Wednesday.
There is a 10–35% chance of snowfall in areas between 2000–2400 meters, particularly those closer to the Pir Panjal.
Gradual improvement in weather is expected from tomorrow late afternoon, with most stabilization achieved by early Thursday morning.
𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙧𝙮:
- High risk of landslides and shooting stones, especially along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44). Travel is discouraged from Tuesday late afternoon to Thursday unless necessary. Similar caution applies to other landslide-prone routes and passes in the Jammu region.
- In case of persistent heavy rainfall, snowfall may extend to lower elevations (2100–2400 meters)
- Some spots can witness gusty winds along with thundershowers, hailstorms, and a risk of lightning strikes.
