SRINAGAR: Srinagar will host the inaugural Khelo India Water Sports Festival at Dal Lake from August 21 to 23, where over 400 athletes from across the country are expected to compete in multiple water sport disciplines, according to media reports.
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, announced the event during a media interaction, stating that the initiative is part of the government’s effort to expand the Khelo India movement. The festival will feature competitions in kayaking and canoeing, water skiing, rowing, and also include Shikara and Dragon Boat races.
The event will be held under the Sports Competition and Talent Development vertical of the Khelo India Scheme. According to the ministry, more than 400 athletes from 36 States and Union Territories are expected to participate.
