
Srinagar: Srinagar Police have secured the conviction of an accused in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case, with the court awarding a sentence of 14 years’ rigorous imprisonment.
The conviction, a statement says, pertains to FIR No. 24/2021 registered at Police Station M.R. Gunj under Sections 363 and 376 of the IPC, read with Section 4 of the POCSO Act. The case relates to the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 17-year-old minor girl, reported on April 11, 2021.
Following the complaint, police conducted a prompt and comprehensive investigation, during which the victim was recovered. Statements of witnesses were recorded, evidence was meticulously collected, and medical as well as forensic examinations were carried out in accordance with established legal procedures.
After completion of the investigation, a charge sheet was filed before the Fast Track Court (POCSO), Srinagar. Upon conclusion of the trial, the court found the accused guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
On December 30, 2025, the court sentenced the accused to 14 years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹15,000.
