SRINAGAR: Police in Srinagar on Thursday conducted raids at several bookshops across the city to seize banned literature allegedly promoting secessionist ideology and threatening national integrity. The operation was carried out following a recent government order.
According to a police spokesperson, the action was taken in compliance with an order issued by the Home Department. The raids were conducted under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), aimed at the search and forfeiture of prohibited material across District Srinagar.
“The objective was to identify and seize any literature that propagates or systematically disseminates false narratives, promotes secessionist ideologies, or poses a threat to the sovereignty and unity of India,” the statement said.
Police stated that the operation was part of a larger initiative to counter what they described as subversive and anti-national content that could potentially incite unrest or undermine national security. The raids were reportedly carried out peacefully and in accordance with due legal process.
Srinagar Police affirmed their commitment to preventing the circulation of any material that could endanger the country’s security or integrity. Authorities added that further legal action would be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation. (JKNS)
