Jammu, Aug 24: Despite the rains, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles on Sunday.
Traffic authorities monitoring the regulation of traffic in Ramban said that despite the rains that lashed between Nashri and Banihal, hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles plied towards their respective destinations.
However, they said that the traffic movement remained slow due to single-lane road stretches between Nashri-Dalwass, Maroog-Kishtwari Pather, and other locations.
They said that the traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles, besides ongoing four-lane construction work at different locations between Nashri and Banihal.
Officials at the Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Ramban late Sunday evening said that the highway was open for two-way traffic.
They said that, subject to fair weather and better road conditions, passenger LMVs and heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on either side on Monday.
They advised the people to confirm the status of the road before undertaking journeys from TCU Jammu, TCU Srinagar, TCU Udhampur, and TCU Ramban on Monday morning.
They advised passengers and LMV operators to undertake journeys on the highway during this time, as there was apprehension of shooting stones between the Ramban and Banihal sectors.
Earlier, traffic authorities said that during the day, vehicular traffic movement was disrupted on the Jammu-Kathua sector of the highway, where one tube of the Sahar Khad Bridge on Jammu-Kathua National Highway had been damaged due to incessant rains, and as a precautionary measure, the second tube had been closed for vehicular traffic movement.
Meanwhile, traffic authorities advised the commuters to avoid travel if not necessary.
They advised commuters not to undertake journeys on the highway without confirming the status of the road on the Traffic Police X handle and Facebook page.
