Ramban, Jul 7: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic for Amarnath Yatra and passenger Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and one-way traffic for heavy vehicles for Jammu on Monday.

However, traffic authorities said traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few vehicles and single-lane road stretches at Nashri and Dalwass and between Maroog and Kishtwari Pather sector between Nashri and Banihal.

Officials said that the traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few vehicles and four-lane construction work at Dalwass, Mehar Cafeteria stretch and between Maroog and Kishtwari Pathar stretch of Nashri and Banihal sector.

Traffic authorities monitoring the regulation of traffic in Ramban said that despite slow traffic movement, hundreds of passenger LMVs and heavy vehicles, oil, and gas tankers plied towards their respective destinations in Srinagar and Jammu till late evening.

They said that LMVs and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri-Banihal stretch of the highway towards Kashmir and Jammu, although at a slow pace.

Meanwhile, the J&K Traffic Department issued a fresh advisory for Tuesday, saying that, subject to fair weather and better road conditions, Amarnath Yatra convoy, LMVs, passenger and private cars would be allowed from both sides of the highway.

They said that in view of the Amarnath  Yatra, passenger LMVs would be released from 6 am to 12 pm, from Nagrota Jammu towards Srinagar and from Jakhani Udhampur towards Srinagar from 7 am to 1 pm.

Similarly, the cut-off timings for Jammu-bound vehicles from Qazigund, Kashmir have been fixed from 11:30 am to 2 pm.

Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, heavy vehicles would be allowed from Jakhani, Udhampur, towards Srinagar after assessing the road and traffic situation on the highway, and no heavy vehicle would be allowed after 8 pm.

The advisory said that given the Amarnath Yatra, the administration had decided to provide hassle-free movement of trucks carrying fresh perishable goods, that all empty diesel and petrol tankers, LPG bulk gas tankers, and empty LPG gas tankers up to 10 tyres would use only Mughal Road while returning to Jammu from Srinagar.

The Traffic Department also issued an advisory for the commuters belonging to Reasi, Katra, Udhampur, Patnitop, Doda, and Ramban towns to keep their photo ID card with them to prove their identification after the cut-off timing from Jammu and Udhampur so that their movement could be facilitated smoothly.
