SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has identified 40 kanals of land at Seer Jagir in Sopore for the construction of a new court complex, officials said on Tuesday.
Replying to a question by legislator Irshad Rasool Kar in the ongoing budget session of the Legislative Assembly, the government said the matter regarding transfer of the land has been formally taken up with the Revenue Department.
“State land measuring 40 Kanals 01 Marla at Seer Jagir Sopore, for construction of new Court Complex, Sopore. The matter regarding the transfer of the said land has been formally taken up with the Revenue Department for effecting its transfer in favour of the Judiciary,” the government said in a written reply.
As the identified land belongs to the government, the question of estimated cost for acquisition does not arise, it added.
The government also informed the House that 11 proposals have been received from the Registry of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir for major infrastructure development, including repair, renovation and upgradation of court complexes and residential quarters of judicial officers across the Union Territory.
“These proposals pertain to the repair, renovation, and upgradation of court complexes as well as the residential quarters of Judicial Officers. These works are under execution at present and funded under Capex Budget,” the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs said in the reply.
However, no timeline has been fixed yet for shifting the existing Sopore court to the new location, the government said. (KNS)
