SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Fruit Growers & Dealers Association has issued a strict directive to its members prohibiting the use of social media platforms for buying and selling fruit, citing negative impacts on trade.
In a notice dated 6 October 2025, the association emphasised that members must refrain from posting videos, making false statements, or promoting goods online while conducting sales. The communication warned that such actions have been harming the business and causing significant damage to the fruit trade in the region.
The notice, issued by the Chairman of the association, stated that “from today onwards, strict action will be taken against anyone who uses social media while buying and selling goods. A fine will be imposed, and membership may be revoked.”
Association officials indicated that the move is aimed at maintaining transparency and credibility in the fruit market, particularly in the Sopore Fruit Mandi, widely known as Apple Town. Members were urged to adhere strictly to the directive to avoid penalties.
The decision comes amid growing concerns over misinformation, misleading videos, and exaggerated claims being circulated online, which the association believes have led to losses for legitimate traders.
