SRINAGAR: Two consecutive snow avalanches struck the Bandipora–Gurez road in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, severely disrupting vehicular movement along the strategic 85-kilometre route, officials said on Monday.
The avalanches blocked key stretches of the road, affecting connectivity to the Gurez Valley and halting traffic movement shortly after the incidents.
Officials said teams of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) were immediately pressed into service, and snow clearance operations were launched on a war footing to restore the road.
Around 56 RCC teams of the BRO were engaged in the operation to clear the accumulated snow and debris and ensure early restoration of traffic.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to reopen the road at the earliest, while commuters have been advised to avoid travel along the route until conditions stabilise.
