SRINAGAR: Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, has been selected for the highly competitive 2025–26 Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators (FNIEA) Award.
The selection, announced by the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF), places Prof Ganai among an elite group of Indian academic leaders chosen for a high-level engagement with the United States higher education system. The award recognises leadership in academic administration and efforts toward internationalising higher education institutions.
The Fulbright-Nehru Program is a flagship international educational exchange initiative sponsored by the Government of the United States, aimed at fostering mutual understanding and building long-term academic linkages between India and the United States. The FNIEA component is designed specifically for senior university administrators to explore global best practices through seminars, institutional visits, and interactions with US universities and government agencies.
During his tenure, Prof Ganai has been credited with strengthening SKUAST-K’s academic and institutional profile, contributing to its ranking as the third-best State Agricultural University in India. Under his leadership, the university has expanded international collaborations, including dual-degree and partnership programs with institutions such as the University of Guelph (Canada), Western Sydney University, and Murdoch University (Australia).
The university has also introduced new academic programs aligned with emerging technologies, including BTech courses in Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture, Economics, and Data Sciences, aimed at preparing students for advancements in Agri 4.0 and the digital bio-economy.
Prof Ganai said he was deeply honoured by the selection, describing it as recognition of SKUAST-K’s growing global academic presence. He added that the exposure would help bring back best practices to further enhance academic standards and international collaborations.
