SKUAST-K Invites Applications for AI Research Fellowship in Animal Welfare Project

SRINAGAR: The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) has announced an opening for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position under a cutting-edge project focused on the application of artificial intelligence to animal welfare and behaviour monitoring.

Funded by the Animal Nutrition Research Foundation (ANRF), the project is titled “Exploring Advanced Artificial Intelligence Techniques for Unique Identification, Ethological Insights, Morphometric Analysis, and Welfare Assessment in Animals.” The post is based at the university’s Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (CAIML), housed in the Discovery Building at the Shalimar campus in Srinagar.

The position is purely temporary and will remain co-terminus with the project. Initially offered for a period of one year, the engagement may be extended up to three years based on a positive evaluation of the candidate’s performance during the first year.

Candidates applying for the post must possess a postgraduate degree—M.Tech, M.Sc., or MCA—in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Artificial Intelligence. Preference will be given to those who have qualified NET or GATE, though in the absence of such candidates, others with strong qualifications may also be considered, in line with the rules of the funding agency.

The university has outlined desirable qualifications that include proficiency in programming languages such as Python, along with evidence of experience in the design and development of artificial intelligence-based projects, particularly in the field of computer vision. Additional expertise in application development, including both backend and frontend components, as well as familiarity with sensor interfacing, data analytics, and the generation of reports using sensor-based IoT systems, will also be advantageous.
