The event was attended by senior faculty members, including Prof Feroz Shaheen, Head of the Department of Radiodiagnosis; Dr Akbar A. Shah, Head of Critical Care; Prof. Imran Hafeez, Head of Cardiology; Medical Superintendent of Super Speciality Hospital SKIMS, Prof GH Yatoo; and Associate Professor of Medical Oncology, Dr Faisal Guru.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Ganie said the initiative was rooted in scientific understanding, emphasising that positive outdoor experiences can directly influence the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, thereby improving emotional well-being and reducing stress among children undergoing intensive treatment.

He said the institute plans to expand the initiative in its next phase by organising similar outings for cancer survivors as well as young children living with chronic conditions such as diabetes.

The outing was designed to provide young patients with a day of relief and normalcy beyond hospital settings. Amidst the vibrant bloom of tulips and the serene natural environment, the children experienced moments of joy, hope, and psychological respite.

Prof. Ganie expressed gratitude to the Department of Floriculture, Parks and Gardens, Jammu and Kashmir, for facilitating the visit. He specifically acknowledged the support of Secretary Floriculture, Zubair Ahmed, and Director Floriculture Kashmir, Masooma Mathoora, for ensuring the event was both meaningful and memorable.

The Department of Floriculture extended complimentary entry and refreshments to all participants, contributing to the overall comfort and enjoyment of the children.

Medical Officer Dr Soozan and Resident Doctor Dr Samara, along with dedicated staff from SKIMS, accompanied the children and ensured their safety and care throughout the visit.

Officials said similar visits would be organised in the future to include children who were unable to participate this time, ensuring wider access to such therapeutic experiences.

The initiative, marked by smiles and laughter among the young participants, underscored the importance of holistic care in medical treatment, demonstrating that even in the face of serious illness, moments of happiness and healing can flourish.
