Jammu, Jul 29: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and Special Director General (DG) Coordination PHQ, holding the additional charge of MD Police Housing Corporation, J&K, Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gillani has been empanelled for holding post of DG or DG equivalent at the Centre.
He is among three officers of AGMUT cadre in a list of 35 IPS officers, whose empanelment for holding posts of DG or DG Equivalent has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
Earlier on December 12, 2024, Gillani was promoted to the DGP grade. “In pursuance to the recommendations of the Screening Committee in its meeting held on December 20, 2023 and with the approval of the Competent Authority, Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gillani, IPS (AGMUT: 1994) is hereby promoted to the DGP Grade (Level-16 in the pay matrix) with effect from the date of assumption of charge,” read an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
An alumnus of Sainik School Manasbal, Gillani has served J&K in various important capacities including SDPO Uri, SDPO Kothibagh, SDPO Gandhinagar, SP (East) Srinagar, SP Kargil, AIG(P) PHQ, SSP Srinagar, IGP Crime J&K, IGP Kashmir Zone, Director Vigilance, J&K and ADGP, Armed. During his deputation, Gillani held important assignments in the Central Bureau of Investigation (GOI), a premier investigative agency of the country from March 2005 to November 2012.
S J M Gillani is a highly decorated officer who has been awarded President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service, Indian Police Medal for Gallantry (1st Bar) and Sher-i-Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious Service and Gallantry.
