
SRINAGAR: A battery explosion in the Nanak Bhawan area of Baramulla on late Tuesday night left a shopkeeper injured, prompting a swift response from emergency services, officials said.
The blast occurred in a market area, triggering concern among locals and shopkeepers in the vicinity.
A team comprising personnel from 46 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and fire and emergency services rushed to the spot soon after the incident to assess the situation and ensure safety in the area.
The injured shopkeeper was evacuated from the site and shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla for treatment, officials said, adding that his condition was being monitored.
Officials said a preliminary investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion. Early indications suggest it may have been linked to a battery malfunction, though this has not yet been officially confirmed.
No further injuries or damage to adjacent shops were immediately reported. [KNT]
