SRINAGAR: Kashmir Valley continued to reel under intense cold, with minimum temperatures dipping below the freezing point across most areas, weather officials said. Srinagar recorded a low of -4.4°C, while Pampore (-5.0°C), Anantnag (-5.3°C), Baramulla (-5.3°C), Pulwama (-5.5°C) and Shopian (-5.9°C) were among the coldest in the region.

Pahalgam witnessed severe cold at -4.6°C, and Kupwara settled at -4.1°C. Gulmarg recorded -2.6°C, Kokernag -1.2°C, and Ganderbal -3.0°C, while higher-altitude areas such as Sonamarg and Zethan Rafiabad recorded -3.6°C and -4.9°C respectively.

In the Jammu region, temperatures also dipped notably, with Jammu city at 8.1°C, Banihal -0.7°C, Bhaderwah -0.2°C, Rajouri 1.4°C, and Samba 2.5°C. Katra recorded 7.6°C, with Udhampur and Ramban at 4.0°C and 4.1°C.

Ladakh experienced a sharp fall in mercury, with Leh at -7.0°C, Kargil -5.6°C and Nubra Valley -4.7°C.

Officials attributed the persistent drop in night temperatures to dry weather and clear skies, and warned that cold wave conditions are likely to continue from December 6, with slight improvement expected on December 4 and 5.
